Music at St James

St James’s has long been blessed with a rich musical heritage, and we now stand at the beginning of an exciting new chapter. In early 2026 we hope to appoint a new Director of Music who will guide and shape the next stage of our parish’s musical life.

As we prepare for this key appointment, we do so with gratitude for all that has gone before and with renewed hope for the future. Music remains central to our worship and identity: it lifts our prayers, deepens our praise, and enriches the spiritual life of our community. With fresh leadership, we anticipate a season of rebuilding, creativity, and growth.

Once the Director of Music has been appointed, we will be inviting expressions of interest from those who would like to be part of the new parish choir(s). This will include opportunities both for experienced singers and for those who are keen to explore or rediscover their voice within a supportive and vibrant musical community.

In the year ahead, we look forward to:

  • Strengthening and developing our choral life

  • Refreshing the musical offering at our principal services

  • Reviving special services and feast-day music

  • Renewing our tradition of instrumental and vocal recitals
